Hello,
We are excited to share with you our progress and achievements for the month of September 2024. Our Operations Department has made significant strides in fertilizer production, organic waste processing, and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) egg and larvae production, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices and income generation for our community.
Performance Highlights: Organic Waste Processing, Fertilizer Production, and Animal Protein Feed Output
This September, we successfully processed 11 tons of organic waste sourced from Kalerwe and Gayaza markets. By using advanced BSF technology, we were able to convert this waste into the following valuable outputs:
- 5 tons of high-protein animal feed derived from processed maggot larvae.
- 6 tons of nutrient-rich bio-fertilizer that is vital for enhancing soil health.
These results not only demonstrate the potential of BSF technology in addressing waste management challenges but also highlight the importance of this initiative in ensuring food security and building financial resilience among our program beneficiaries. The transformation of waste into useful resources continues to provide women in our network with sustainable income-generating opportunities, reinforcing the core values of the Women Income Network.
Training and Collaboration: Welcoming New Partnerships
This month, we had the pleasure of hosting visitors from the Nabugabbo Joint Venture and TakaNiAjira Foundation Uganda. These visitors expressed keen interest in our maggot farming initiatives and were inspired by the work being done at our demonstration farm. Additionally, they visited one of our women’s groups engaged in the contract farming model, where they witnessed firsthand the positive impact that this program is having on local communities.
Our team looks forward to future collaborations with these organizations, particularly in extending maggot farming initiatives to their women’s groups.
Thank you for your unwavering support in helping us achieve these milestones. We look forward to sharing more updates and successes with you in the coming months.
