MILESTONES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
- Organic Fertilizer Production
- WIN produced over 25 tonnes of organic fertilizer from maggot frass in 2024, significantly boosting soil health and crop productivity.
- January: Processed 0.65 tonnes at our farm and 1.95 tonnes from beneficiary farms.
- June: Achieved a record monthly production of 5.2 tonnes.
- Waste Management and Recycling
- Over 60 tonnes of organic waste from Kalerewe Market and local farms were processed into nutrient-rich maggot feed.
- February: Processed 10.5 tonnes of organic waste.
- June: Introduced advanced shredding technology to enhance processing efficiency.
- Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Larvae Production
- The BSF program produced over 8 tonnes of larvae for sustainable animal feed.
- February: Harvested 1,750 grams of BSF eggs.
- June: Processed 700 kilograms of larvae from WIN farms and outgrowers.
- Community Engagement and Training Programs
- WIN hosted various training sessions to share knowledge and build capacity:
- February: Hands-on training for Bugema University students on organic fertilizer production.
- May: Partnered with five outgrowers to co-design maggot farming contract models.
- June: Initiated a partnership with the Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) to scale maggot farming.
- WIN hosted various training sessions to share knowledge and build capacity:
- Women’s Day Celebration 2024
- Celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8th with the theme “Inspire Inclusion,” highlighting women’s achievements in agriculture.
- Featured keynote speeches emphasizing women’s roles in sustainable development and practical demonstrations on maggot farming.
- Collaborative Research with Ndejje University
- Conducted a bio-techno-economic evaluation of a maggot-facilitated waste management system, promoting sustainable practices.
